The attraction of greyhound betting compared to
horse
racing, there are more races per card and there are fewer
outside influences to detract from fair run races. Greyhounds carry no jockeys,
all tracks and surfaces are similar, there are always 6 dogs in a race and there
are no weight handicaps.
From a gamblers point of view this makes for more reliable
betting. Favourites win frequently, high performing greyhounds are allowed
to perform consistently well; hampered only by such variables as trap
draw, buffeting and how well they run round corners.
Dual Forecasts
The most popular bets placed by greyhound
gamblers tend to be forecasts and reverse forecasts were the gambler chooses 2
selections to finish either 1st and 2nd or in either order; with each greyhounds
odds leveraging the odds of the other should these 2 dogs finish 1st and 2nd.
The straight forecast chooses dog
A to win and dog B to finish 2nd as 1 bet: thus if dog A has a starting price of
2/1 and dog B 3/1 and they finish 1st and 2nd in this order, the payout will be
£7 to a £1 stake, but if they finish in any other order the bet is lost.
The reverse forecast allows the gambler to again
select 2 dogs but allows either to win providing the other finishes 2nd
this is staked as 2 bets.
Favourite against the field
The high frequency of favourites winning
in greyhound racing offers a good opportunity to employ a system of betting on
every dog in the same race.
It works like this, first select the
favourite (priced at above evens, if the favourite is priced odds on avoid the
race). and perm it to win with any of the remaining 5 dogs in the race to
finish 2nd ie 5 bets. Provided the favourite wins then you are guaranteed to win
a straight forecast, this is of particular benefit when the second dog home is a
long priced outsider.
Your betting slip will look like this
Dog A to win
Dog B to finish second
Dog A to win
Dog C to finish second
Dog A to win
Dog D to finish second
Dog A to win
Dog E to finish second
Dog A to win
Dog F to finish second
